Team building workshops can be very beneficial to self-directed teams, cross-functional teams, new teams just forming, two separate teams that are being merged into one team, teams experiencing the loss of members due to reorganization or downsizing, and on-going intact work teams.

Goals for each team building session are determined by the team, team leader or manager. S&A does not have a specific "team building formula" that all teams must complete. Instead, every team building session is custom-designed to fit the specific team situation, issues, time functioning as a team, and priority goals. S&A is very flexible in scheduling team building sessions. Sessions can vary in length of time and days, such as two eight-hour sessions, 5 half-day sessions, two days every quarter, to multiple sessions over a period of a year or more.

Expert facilitation allows groups to focus on achieving their goals. Sample team building goals are: improving communication; dealing with issues, events or other strains that are negatively affecting team productivity; allowing members to get acquainted personally; clarifying the team's customers and customer requirements; determining annual team goals; redesigning new business processes; handling service or product complaints; developing peer coaching skills to enhance personal and team effectiveness; identifying the values by which team decisions and actions are to be made; determining meeting norms and how decisions will be made; and "just-in-time" training in specific skills.


Outcomes of team building workshops are typically increased communication, enhanced team effectiveness and greater satisfaction on the part of both team members and management.
