Having an external facilitator allows groups to focus on the agenda at hand.
Each group facilitation process is custom designed to meet the specific
goals of the group. Review of the design with the session initiator
prior to the scheduled date ensures the facilitation design is on
target.
However, a group's actions during a facilitated meeting can not be precisely forecast. Therefore, an important skill which S&A's consultants posses is to recognize new emerging directions, quickly caucus with the session initiator to determine the highest priority among the new directions and planned goals, and change the design on the spot or acknowledge the new
directions while guiding the group back to the original goals.
Sample facilitation assignments might include group retreats, workshops
on a specific topic, year-end review meetings, annual planning sessions,
business process redesign projects, strategic planning, "milestone celebrations" with lessons learned meetings, quarterly "next steps" meetings, etc.
Also, the process of facilitating groups would be an integral part of
team building projects,
conflict resolution sessions, and
managing change projects.
Please refer to these sections for further information about S&A's
services in these specific situations.

The facilitator is responsible for guiding the process to allow all group members to participate and be heard, as well as keeping the group moving to achieve
the goals of the meeting.
