What is the Hartman Value Profile exactly? 

 

The Hartman Value Profile consists of two lists of eighteen items that you must rank individually. Taking page one, you rank those items from 1-18. Then taking page two, you rank those items from 1-18. The ranking process can be completed in 15 - 20 minutes.  S&A has online, Internet-based profile administration so that the profile can be completed at any time of the day or evening.

 

The Hartman Value Profile is based on the theory and science of valuing created by Dr. Robert S. Hartman. As a science, there are mathematical principles that provide the structure for the analysis of valuing. The results of the HVP are derived from these logical, mathematical norms and are not based on the values of any specific population or group. Consequently, the profile is not a test to be passed or failed. There is no one right answer to the rankings of the two lists. The results have no bias with respect to sex, age, race or creed or any other socio-cultural classification. Honesty is the best criterion for obtaining accurate results.

 

Advantages of the HVP are:

  • Administration takes a short amount of time 15-20 minutes, and can be completed online.

  • It is an objective assessment which can not be biased. The profile asks them do a ranking task and picks up their decision-making pattern as they do the task. The mathematical analysis can detect a randomly ranked list and will not produce a report for a random ranking.

  • It is a simple task to rank order 18 items and 18 statements

  • It is non-obtrusive in that respondents are not asked to describe themselves or their experience. People's privacy is respected.

  • Users report that the results have a very high face validity

  • HVP reports are provided in English

  • The HVP rank order forms are available in multiple languages: English, Spanish, German, Japanese and Romanian.  HVP rank order forms in other languages are being developed: Chinese, Arabic, Portuguese, Dutch, French and Polish.

  • The HVP is supported by research.
